This weekend was earmarked for a trial run with the furry crew but we had storms moving in so those plans were changed. I went down to play with the new toys and get the painting done. I had gotten yet another flat bike tire so I filled the wood holes and went to the bike and hardware stores while it was drying. The hardware/tackle store on the island is like a giant toy store for boaters that has this odd time warp that sucks you in with shiny objects. I eventually made it to the checkout where I proclaimed to the cashier "I got one of everything". Her response? "You really did!"
With my tools in tow and a new tire courtesy of my friends at Shore Break it was time to get busy on the boat. When I begin working on her, the 25 foot boat interior miraculously grows - sometimes tripling in size. Today was no exception. After sanding for what seemed like an eternity, I was able to put a few quick coats on. I still need to cut in and work on the trim but it is already so much brighter inside! Don't judge my sloppy painting - after 3 hours of painting my arms were a bit sore. The vinyl sides now look gross but those are going to have to wait until the window replacements. Still a long, long way to go but she is getting there!
When taking the trim pieces off the galley, I found a section of contact paper which had to have dated back to the early 70's. In case you were interested, the adhesive is still quite sticky. The vinyl coating was another story - completely brittle. Removal was a royal pain and I had to do it in shifts because my brain nearly exploded. I then turned my attention to the bilge pump wiring - the Cliff Notes version: I am not an electrician (like there was ever any doubt). I will have to call in reinforcements for that one but for now, the Yeti was amazing charging my cell and portable VHF. I plugged the small space heater into the pedestal power and it only took 15 minutes for it to become toasty inside. This is very promising!
It looks like move-in day may get moved up a bit so things are going to be pretty crazy the next two weeks. Hopefully the boat, my crew, and my sanity hold out! Here are some before/durings:
