Thanks to the fall plants which have begun their annual mission to slowly kill me I have been neglecting Velella this week. I had to venture to the grocery store and swung by to see her on the way. Since I wasn't feeling up to heavy cleaning, I carried a small jar of a delicious miracle worker. More on this to come.
But first, the before and after comparison of the sail cover I couldn't get in the dark. Again, 20 years of neglect and growth removed with some elbow grease and Dr. Bronner's!!
Before (the day she became mine):

And (drum roll please) after:
So now for today's before and after fun. The bike trip which normally doesn't phase me had already beaten me pretty bad for the day so I decided to stick to something small. Luckily, she held up to the monsoons well with just a little water from the leaky window. I decided to work on the wood trim. Long neglected, the wood trim was very dry and weather beaten. Instead of spending additional money on another chemical laden concoction I opted for something I had in my pantry. Here are the results.
What was this miraculous concoction? COCONUT OIL!! That's right, great for skin, hair and now wooden boat trim. Environment, marina, and bank account friendly! The wood soaked it up like a sponge! One day I will proceed to the interior wood as well.
